Blackpool Group of Lodges

Ronald McDonald House Benefits from the Blackpool Freemasons.

Saturnian Lodge No.7563, a member of the Blackpool Group of Lodges under the Chairmanship of W.Bro. Ian Robertson. P.A.G.D.C. donated the fantastic sum of £1000 to Ronald McDonald House at the famous Alder hey Hospital in Liverpool.

During Malcolm Woods’s year as Worshipful Master of Saturnian Lodge he and his wife, Elaine, wanted to say a big thank you to House Director, Jan Thomas and her team for the very kind support they had received while staying in one of the 69 rooms provided by Ronald McDonald House. Malcolm and Elaine had stayed in the home while their son, Andrew had a brain tumour removed. Malcolm said that the facilities provided by the R.M.H. had been a great help and comfort to the family, enabling them to stay close to Andrew during a very worrying and stressful time.

Malcolm had also contacted Jim Woods, of the WEST LANCASHIRE FREEMASONS CHARITY, and was advised to apply for a grant. This he did, and very quickly the West Lancashire Freemasons Charity responded by matching the £1000, making a new total of £2000.  Malcolm and Elaine were then proud to hand over a cheque to R.M.House for £2000. on behalf of Sarurnian Lodge and the W.L.F.C.

The history of Ronald McDonald House dates back to 1993 when just 26 rooms were available. But with funding from Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities, the hospital, other outside donors and families the total of rooms was increased in 2005 to 69.  Since it opened R.M.House has accommodated over 13.000 families totally free of charge.
