Presentation of a Cheque to the

Macmillan Windmill Appeal

The Blackpool Group Annual Sponsored Walk has been raising monies for local Charities for a number of years, during which time many thousands of pounds sterling have been raised for worthy causes.  These include the Hospice in the Fylde, Children's Hospice, Blackpool Victoria Scanner Appeal and not forgetting The Blackpool Windmill Appeal. 

This walk takes place on a Sunday morning during the month of May each year.  The walk is from the Masonic Hall, Adelaide St., Blackpool to The Taps Inn, Henry Street, Lytham.  A distance of roughly 13 Kilometres.  The past year just over 100 Men, Ladies and Children took part.

Ian and June Rigg, the Innkepers at The Taps very kindly provide free Hot Pot followed by Apple Pie and Cream to all the walkers, their families and friends, all of whom congregate at The Taps Inn at the end of the walk

The walk that took place in May 2000 raised the magnificent sun of £11,200.00. which was donated to the Victoria Hospital Macmillan Appeal.  The walk which took place in May 2002 raised the sum of £9800.00., and once again the money was donated to the Windmill Appeal, which together with the previous donation of £11200.00 makes the total £21000.00 having been donated to this worthy cause from the two walks.

On Wednesday evening, 29th January 2003, a Presentation Dinner with 100 people in attendance was held in the Fylde Suite, Masonic Hall, Adelaide St. Blackpool, when the Lord Lieutenant of the County, Lord Charles Shuttleworth, and Lady Ann were the principal guests of the evening

Following dinner, a cheque made out for the sum of £9800.00 payable to the Macmillan Windmill  Appeal was presented by W.Bro. Ivan Beauchamp to Lord Shuttleworth, after which the Lord Lieutenant presented a delightful framed "Walk Certificate" to each of those Sponsored Walkers who were in attendance.
