St John’s has been successful in a recent bid to the Freemasons Community Fund. The bid was made to help equip the training centre, at present being constructed as part of the development programme, to offer wider facilities to the community at St John’s. The £700 donated by the Freemasons Community Fund will go towards purchasing a laptop computer and other training equipment to support skills training. The public appeal target is £500,000 and the contribution from the Freemasons will bring the overall total raised for the St John’s Appeal to £189,354.
The first phase of the redevelopment has recently been completed. Streetlife now have a purpose built amenity to provide emergency accommodation for homeless young people, in the Church grounds. The next phase of the work has already started with the creation of a separate community entrance and the installation of a new kitchen.
Steven Reid – Assistant Provincial Grand Master for Blackpool and South Fylde said: ‘It is very pleasing to see our Community Fund being used for such worthy projects and local causes. To be able to give members of our communities access to cutting edge technology, so that they can ultimately lead more productive lives, is truly a hallmark of our work as Freemasons’.
The Rev Michael Manley said ‘On behalf of St John’s, I would like to thank everyone who has supported our appeal. We are delighted we can at last see some of the results of our efforts, to ensure St John’s meets the needs of the 21st century. St John’s is determined to be part of the regeneration of Blackpool and the changes which we are making at the Church will make a significant contribution in the heart of Blackpool’.
