The Annual Blackpool Group Sponsored Walk took place on Sunday 14th May 2000, when approximately some 150 people including Brethren, their wives, children and friends outside Freemasonry departed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.  from the Masonic Hall, Adelaide Street, Blackpool, the home of the Blackpool Group of Freemasons Lodges.

Their destination was the Taps Inn, Henry Street, Lytham, roughly some 8 miles in distance.  The route to be taken was along the South Promenade, Blackpool, onwards past Pontins Holiday Camp at Squires Gate and eventually turning on to the Inner Promenade at St Annes-on-Sea and proceeding along the sea front past Fairhaven Lake  onwards towards Lytham.

It was a delightful sunny day for the walkers and what could be better on arrival at the Taps Inn, where their friends were awaiting them, only to be served with FREE Hot Pot followed by Apple Pie and Cream so kindly prepared and served by the Landlord and his wife, W. Bro. Ian Rigg and Mrs Rigg.

The walkers take part in a FREE draw for quite a number of bottles of Wine and the children taking part were all provided with FREE sweets.

The Sponsored Walk is fast becoming one of the highlights of the year and the numbers taking part is constantly growing each year especially in view that all the monies which are raised by way of sponsorship is donated to a specific Charity.  It is a wonderful day out and anyone wishing to take part in future can be assured of a very rewarding experience.

All walkers are eventually presented with an engraved trophy as tangible evidence of having taken part in the Walk and the monies they raised  for a worthwhile charitable cause.

The monies raised by this particular walk amounted to the magnificent sum of £11,220.00 all of which was donated to the Blackpool Victoria Hospital Macmillan Windmill Appeal for a new Cancer Unit at this Hospital
