Blackpool Group of Lodges
Cold hands warm hearts.
Just before Christmas 2010, Emblem Lodge No.6727 which is a member of the Blackpool Group of Lodges, held their Ladies Evening at the new Blackpool Football Club stadium. But, due to unforeseen circumstances the heating system broke down. The members of Emblem Lodge and their guests being the true masons they are made the best of the situation as the 186 strong packed the dance floor all evening just to keep warm.
The Blackpool Football Cub immediately addressed the problem and speaking to Ian Smith who is both treasurer and social secretary for the lodge, offered a 10% discount. But it did not rest there. Ian was aware that the Football Club was one of many supporters of Brian House Children’s Hospice and asked them to reconsider their offer.
Brian House provides care and a “home from home” environment for children and young adults who have life threatening condition, and is situated locally in Bispham, Blackpool. John Rogers, on behalf of the Football Club promptly replied, and doubled the original amount. Emblem Lodge then agreed to round up the sum to a magnificent £800-00p.

A deputation of lodge members which included, Peter Smith, Colin Wade, Ian Smith and the famous Charlie Cairoli, who is a member of Emblem Lodge and is now in his first year as a Freemason, gathered to present the cheque. Brian House fund raiser, Lisa Martin took time out of her very busy schedule to accept the cheque on behalf of the charity and gave them a full guided tour. The children and staff were delighted, and there were smiles all round, as Charlie did what he is best known for, “clowning around”. The members of Emblem Lodge left with a feeling of enlightenment in the knowledge that the Freemasons of Blackpool and the Fylde coast play a huge part in the continued funding and support of Brian House Children’s Hospice.
