Alan spreads good cheer

Alan Whitehouse, who is a past first principal of Blackpool Chapter of Integrity No 5864, was promoted to the high rank of Provincial Deputy Grand Registrar at this month’s Provincial Grand Chapter.  Alan currently serves as Scribe N in the chapter and is also the chapter almoner, having held this position for the last four years.

His nickname throughout the Fylde is the ‘Jam Almoner’ and the reason why comes from the ‘spread’ of his reputation for making homemade jams, marmalade, chutney and piccalilli. These culinary delights are made to the highest standards as Alan, who is a retired hotelier, is a trained chef.

Alan says that the nickname Jam Almoner came about: “Because when I make my regular home visits as the chapter almoner I take with me some of my homemade produce as a gift.  “The nickname is good for public relations and it also helps to make my visits very special, especially to those widows who may not have seen any visitors for a while.”
